Hands On Learning
Blue Mountains Ed recognises that school excursions can't just be classroom learning in another setting. They need to provide students with experiential learning opportunities that can't be offered in the classroom.
Students will spend their time away doing, rather than just sitting and listening
During the program each student will

- Identify different qualities of gold
- Explore a replica gold mine
- Visit a working Blacksmith's shop
- Erect a miner's tent
- Construct a mud brick
- Play goldrush-era games
- Use a hand held weather computer
- Measure tree circumference and fern frond length in a rainforest
- See the Wollemi Pine
- Ride the world's steepest railway
- Walk a rainforest boardwalk
- Draw a field sketch of the rainforest
- Ride a cable car out of a rainforest
- See a film on a giant screen
- Abseil off a cliff
- Use a compass
- Use a trundle wheel
- Navigate an orienteering course
- Travel on the Mt Panorama race track
- Perform a freeze frame play
